Review by Justin.C

I just finished my new book Percy Jackson and the Olympians book 2 The Sea of Monsters written by Rick Riordan. When the author Rick Riordan was in middle school he wrote his first short story he wanted published but it was not published. He was an English and History teacher but he wanted to be a full time writer so he quit. He reminds me of my dad because he likes fantasy and fiction books like my dad. My dad majored in English when he was in college. He likes Lord of the Rings like my dad. He even plays World of Warcraft with his children like my dad, which cool. This book is very captivating. There are 279 pages in this book and I finished the book in less than a day. I could not put the book down. There are a lot of glorious action scenes which made it intriguing and I wanted to keep reading. This is the first book I have read that I wanted to be a character in.

The main character in the book is Percy Jackson. Percy makes a new friend named Tyson the baby cyclopes. The Percy Jackson books are mainly about Greek Mythology being true. In Greek Mythology there are multiple gods such as, Athena the god of wisdom, Aries the god of war, Hephaestus the blacksmith god and many more. Percy is special because he is the son of one of the big three gods. The names of the big three are Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. Percy is the son of Poseidon the water god. In the book Percy discovered that Tyson may be more than just a friend.

Percy has other friends too like Grover who is a Satyr and Annabeth who is the daughter of Athena. They met in book one Percy Jackson the Lightning Thief, at the half blood camp. In camp half blood every one is the son or daughter of a god or goddess, but they are half human. That is why they are called half bloods. Camp Half blood is where they go to train for fighting monsters.

Now in this book Percy is trying to save his friend Grover. While he is trying to save his friend, camp half blood is also in danger. He runs into Charybdis and Scylla creatures who are sisters. Charybdis is a nightmare. She is just a huge mouth with bad teeth. The book does not tell what Scylla looks like because she snatches you as fast as sound and eats you so fast pieces of your flesh will shoot out like bullets. They have to fight them in order to continue on their quest to save Grover. It gets more dangerous and intense the closer they get to saving Grover. There is an explosion while Tyson is in the boiler room of the submarine which was taking them to the Island where Grover is but the ship blows up!

Will they get past Charybdis and Scylla? Will Percy be able to save the Half Blood Camp? Does Tyson survive the explosion? And will Percy Jackson save his friend Grover?

Well, to find out you are going to have to read the book. Bye!

P.S. I am really excited about the movie
