Book Review: Guardians of Ga'Hoole Book 2

Guardians of Ga'Hoole
Book 2 - The Journey
Book written by Kathryn Lasky.
Review by JUSTIN C. age 9

Today, I finished my book Guardians of Ga'Hoole - The Journey book 2. It was interesting to learn that the author went to college at the University of Michigan in the state were I was born. Just 20 minutes from where use to live. In the book, the main character is Soren the barn owl. Soren and his friends Gylfy, Twilight and Digger go on a journey to The Great Tree of Ga'Hoole after they had been captured in book 1. The Great Tree is on an Island  far from where they were kidnapped in book 1. The tree has thousands of hollows for owls, which is like a huge city.

When they get to the tree they are taught talents that become skills to help them survive and learn to fight. There are different talents, like black-smithing, weather, navigation, and tracking.  My favorite talent is black smithing because they make battle claws, helmets, and swords.    I also like weather because you can ride twisters, tornadoes, and sometimes even hurricanes. Weather is cool too because it is very thrilling like jumping off a cliff during an earthquake.  They learn these skills to someday become Guardians.  Guardians  are like Knights that come out only at night to do good deeds.  Their mission is to, "Mend the broken, make strong the weak and vanquish all evil."

In this book Soren and his band make new friends. Some of their names are Primrose, Boron, Matron, Otulissa, Baran, Ezylryb, Bubo and Martin.  They go to class with their new friends.  While they go to class to become Guardians the evil St. Aegolius is still kidnapping owlets and stealing eggs to make soldiers to kill the Guardians of Ga'Hoole.  Soren wants to try to learn his skills very fast but he has to stay focus so he can learn every little detail about the skill because he was chosen to learn two skills.  Soren is anxious to stop St. Aegolius. Meanwhile, Soren's brother Clud joins St. Aegolius to help him destroy the Guardians. Soren is also worried about the rest of his family since he had been captured in book one. One of the Guardians finds a member of Sorens family on a scouting mission which distracts him from his studies even more.

I like book 2 because it has a lot of interesting things going on like the owls making kitchens, baking cakes, making tea and using nest maid snakes for tables.  A nest maid snake is a snake that is blind and cleans nests for the owls. In the Ga'Hoole tree one of the rules there is no one can tell wet poop jokes and those jokes are funny. The King of the Ga'Hoole tree breaks the rule and tells his friends wet poop jokes a lot.  I think this is one of the best books you can read because of all the cool action scenes, training, flights into hurricanes and tornadoes and battles.

So do you think Soren will stay focus to learn his skill faster or leave it before he is finish learning to go fight St. Aegolius? If you want to know more read this book!!!  I know you'll like this book!
